PREFACE

Government Science College, Nrupatunga Road, Bangalore-1, a premier institution for Boys and Girls is affiliated to Bangalore University. It offers twenty-one courses under its B.Sc. programme and Three M.Sc. programmes in Biotechnology, Mathematics and Microbiology. The B.Sc. programme is of three years duration and the M.Sc. programme is of two years duration.

The Principal is the academic and administrative head of the institution. There are twenty-three departments, which are lead by the senior and experienced teachers. The college has well-qualified and experienced teachers.

The faculty position is adequate as per the Government norms in all the departments. The college encourages participation of the teaching staff in seminar/ workshop, conferences, symposiums, orientation and refresher courses as a measure towards academic growth. The teachers are also deputed for higher studies.

The college has a reasonably low fee structure and hence attracts students from the economically and socially weaker sections of the society, which essentially comprises of first generation learners. Yet many of our students pursue higher studies. We are proud to record that our alumni.

Occupy important positions in society and are in different fields like medicine, engineering, research, teaching, social work and fine arts. Since its inception the postgraduate sections has been performing extremely well maintaining a hundred percent results in the University, examinations in addition to bagging a number of ranks.

The supporting units of the college include the office, library and the hostel. The office is headed by the Registrar and efficiently works to help students in the areas of admission, examinations and scholarships.

Our college library has a good collection of books and journals for reference and circulation. It subscribes to national and international journals. Computerization of library is in progress.

NCC (Army wing & naval wing), NSS and Physical education departments mould the personality and character of the students.

Our college was graded “B++” from NAAC, which was only the government science college to get top grade in the Year 2002-03 in India.
